Building Codes

The Building Codes Department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the provisions of the building, mechanical, and plumbing codes. The purpose of these codes is to provide minimum requirements to safeguard the public safety, health, and general welfare through affordability, structural strength, means of egress facilities, stability, sanitation, light and ventilation, energy conservation and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment.

The Building Codes Department reviews and issues all building, plumbing, and mechanical permits within the Town. The Department inspects all work performed associated with these issued permits. The Department also maintains all records associated with these permits and inspections. The Department is also charged with maintaining records of the Adequate Facilities Taxes and the Roadway Infrastructure Impact Fees paid to the Town. The Town of Nolensville has adopted to the 2018 I-Codes.

Permit Applications

Once application has been submitted, please allow 7-14 business days for your application to be processed.
For an electrical permit please visit Core.tn.gov.
If you are building a covered deck or patio, you will need to fill out an additions/renovations permit application. 

Homeowners 
If you are a homeowner that is applying for an additions/renovations or a deck permit, in lieu of a contractor, please fill out these forms. Homeowner Forms If applicable, we will need a copy of your HOA approval.  

Make a Payment               
Payments can be made in person with check or credit/debit card or by phone with a credit/debit card.                                              Please note: We will no longer be accepting cash as a form of payment.

Building Codes Department 2022-2023 Accomplishments
  • Developed a webpage which lists the daily inspections and includes the outcome. Contractors and other interested parties may now view the results from each completed inspection.
  • Inspected Quadrant Three to identify all substandard structures and notify the property owner(s) of violations and of the required remedial action.
  • Provided residential contractors with a checklist to help identify commonly missed code violations.
  • With the help of our great volunteers, Carole and Wayne, the department uploaded (where available) all plot plans and certificates of occupancy to the town’s GIS.
  • Resolved a substandard structure case and a separate property maintenance case at 7013 Nolensville Road.
