Nolensville News – Friday, April 12th, 2024

Town Manager
The Town of Nolensville was recently given a grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation which is aimed at using State American Rescue Plan funds to implement water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects. We have selected a consulting engineering firm, Neel-Schaffer, Inc., to perform a Town-wide inventory and condition assessment of Nolensville’s stormwater assets, develop a Town-wide stormwater study, and develop plans for stormwater capital improvement projects resulting from the study’s recommendations. Teams of personnel will be seen around Nolensville collecting information on the Town’s stormwater system. They will be wearing bright-colored vests and carrying iPads and survey equipment to collect information on the storm infrastructure between March 20 and mid-June. If you have any questions, please contact Don Swartz, Town Engineer (dswartz@nolensvilletn.gov) or Chuck Downham, Assistant Town Manager (cdownham@nolensvilletn.gov).

The Town of Nolensville is pleased to announce its partnership with Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) to assist in ensuring the accuracy of special census data. Field workers and town employees have conducted and completed door-to-door visits throughout Nolensville in record time. The next step will be for GNRC to finish their portion of the verification process in office before our census is sent to the state. Thank you to our community for making this step in the process a seamless one!

Join us Tuesday April 16th from 5-7pm at Nolensville Town Hall as Kimley Horn gives a public presentation sharing information about the TDEC public recreation grant application the Town will be applying for later this month. The project will be on the new Sunset Road property, and we welcome the community’s input at the meeting. A second meeting will be held virtually on Thursday April 18th at noon via zoom. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is conducting a Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study to establish the vision for the Downtown Nashville Interstate Corridors network and how future Choice Lanes projects in the Downtown Nashville area could potentially connect or expand on the larger system.

The PEL Study considers the benefits and impacts of proposed transportation system improvements to the environment, community and economy during the early transportation planning process.

This Downtown Nashville Interstate Corridors PEL Study includes 45 miles of interstate segments:

  • I-65, I-24 and I-40 – the “Inner Loop” in Downtown Nashville
  • I-65 from SR 155 (Thompson Lane) to the Inner Loop
  • I-440 from I-65 to I-24/I-40
  • I-24 from Inner Loop to I-65 interchange (north of Downtown Nashville)
  • I-40, from Inner Loop to Elm Hill Pike
  • I-24 from I-40 to I-840 (south of Downtown Nashville)

From April 1-30, 2024, information will be available at https://bit.ly/Nash-PEL-Study for you to review and share your feedback. TDOT wants this PEL Study to be collaborative and meaningful, as your input is critical to the future of this corridor. Although the public comment period will officially end on April 30, 2024, all the information about the ongoing Planning and Environmental Linkages Study will remain accessible for the duration of the study. We encourage you to learn about these exciting plans and offer your feedback as a member of our community!

Visit the website (and submit your feedback) at: https://bit.ly/Nash-PEL-Study. You can also submit your feedback by calling the PEL Study hotline at (615) 451-8039 or by sending it via email to TDOT.BuildWithUs@tn.gov.

Police Department
This week, the Nolensville Police Department was busy training new reserve officers. Classes included dynamics in the use of force, safe weapon handling, and our favorite, range time. Reserve officers dedicate their time to the Town of Nolensville and are required to attend the same POST certified classes the full-time officers’ attend. We would like to welcome our two new reserve officers Josh Guin and Kenny Stephens.

On Tuesday, our officers taught classes at Nolensville High School to the seniors. Prom season is upon us, and we were asked by school staff to speak with the student about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. We always enjoy teaching classes at the NHS, and this give us time to establish a rapport with these young adults in our community.

On Thursday, officers from the Nolensville Police Department attended a Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) network meeting. We are currently working through a grant application with THSO for the purchase of new equipment and overtime funding for extra patrols. During the meeting, grantees will network with the THSO staff and other grantees in the Middle-Tennessee area. In acceptance of a THSO grant, grantees are required to attend these quarterly meetings.

Today, the Nolensville Police Department is conducting a station visit at the Tullahoma Police Department. Tullahoma has recently built a new police station, and we want to speak with the station administration to see what they learned during the construction of the station. We have learned a lot from multiple police station visits and will apply the lessons learned when we build a new station for the Nolensville Police Department.
